Astral Projection
| NEW ENTRY

In the 1990s Avi Nissim and Lior Perlmutter, aka Astral Projection, were pioneers of the Goa trance sound. Releasing classics like 'Mahadeva', 'Let There Be Light', 'People Can Fly' and 'Dancing Galaxy' on labels like TIP, Transient and Matsuri, the Israeli duo's psychedelic releases were championed by big names like Danny Rampling and Paul Oakenfold. Now that psy has mushroomed in popularity again, Astral Projection are tripping the light fantastic for a whole new generation of trancers. However, there have been some problems along the way. "We ditched our former record company and booking managers and completed our new album, 'Open Society', after three years of hard work," Avi says. "This year was definitely busier for gigs after firing our booking managers and signing to new ones - we're free at last." Astral Projection are also trying to break the perception that they're tie-dye wearing hippies and have spent much of 2008 writing "good refreshing and interesting music, and not just in one genre - we are trying to evolve, helped by technology and other musical influences". For the rest of the year they are touring India and Australia and in early 2009 embark on a US tour to promote the new album. They also plan to release a DVD of the album and an EP with remixes of classic'80s and '90s hits - but "not just club hits".
