If a change is as good as a rest, there's no wonder Bob Sinclar sounds so tranquil as we approach the end of 2008. After aiming to escape the "craziness" and the "energy" of Paris, he's now just returned home after being holed up in LA for the year. "I wanted to come back with more of a positive vibe to my music," he says. "I didn't want to get influenced by dance music. I wanted to listen to classic rock and pop for a year and I could never do that in France." The Yellow boss says that it was very inspiring for his forthcoming album, one that will be "a mix of black influences with more folk and '70s-style Californian music". But that's not to say that he has avoided dance music completely. Living in America has meant that for the first time he was able to devote the time to DJ across the expansive country, clocking up three gigs a month. But for all the work on the album, this year has clearly been about his massive single with Axwell. 'What A Wonderful World' welds a new instrumental from the Swede with a song from Bob that's almost five-years-old. A huge club and radio hit, it clearly worked and set the Frenchman in recycling mode for DJing too. "Because I've made a lot of tracks and people want to hear me playing my own stuff, I tried to give my classics a twist this year," he says of his year behind the decks.
