French funk fiend Martin Solveig took his music into the live realm for the first time in 2008, in the spectacular surroundings of the Stade De France, as part of the mega dance event Unighted. "We've started to do a live show," he affirms. "It's fully live with three singers and a full band. We played at Stade de France with David Guetta and Carl Cox. We've started in France because that's where things always start for me. It's been the most challenging thing - really exciting and original." From his beginnings referencing Afro-beat legends like Fela Kuti on productions for Bob Sinclar's influential 'Africanism' series, to his funk-rock influenced later productions like 'Rocking Music', Solveig reckons the reason he's stayed fresh is his ability to move with the times, while retaining that all-important trademark groove. "I'm always on the move. There's a bit of funk that will always be me but the rest of it is always changing," he asserts. In demand as a DJ everywhere from Corsica to Croatia, and having just rocked Australia with a whistle-stop tour of Perth, Brisbane and Sydney, Solveig's been keeping the productions bubbling, too: latest track 'I Want You' has been tearing up floors with a dirty punk disco feel. Currently cooking up some fresh tunes, Solveig has promised a more electronic direction, breaking from the organic house grooves with which we normally associate him. "I've got a couple of new tracks coming, one called '1, 2, 3, 4' that's strictly electronic and probably one of the more club-orientated tracks I've done," he reveals.
