This Is™ Sander Kleinenberg alright but exactly what that is isn't obvious these days. A DJ of substance over styles, the Dutchman continues to use his This Is residencies at Ministry of Sound, Pacha (in union with Friday's Pure Pacha) and LA's Avalon to explore the full spectrum of electronic music through his VJ assisted epics. Whether its Spirit Catcher or Simian Mobile Disco, SiS or The Shapeshifters, there's room for all in Sander's CD wallet. "I'm happiest when building a familiarity with a room and a crowd," he explains. "It means less touring, sure, but what you do, you get the most out of. You can show a side of you that's impossible to let out if you're just doing the guest thing and playing for two hours." Stepping up to Pete Tong's throne as the longest serving Pure Pacha resident was a daunting task but the success of both night's proved Sander was more than up to the task. "It's crazy to think 15 years ago I was driving round Ibiza on a moped playing for free," he jokes. The only blank space on Sander's '08 report card is in the production department. His past merits have been typically versatile, including the timeless prog epic 'My Lexicon', punk-funked floor rocker 'The Fruit' and rippling electro bubbler 'This Is Miami'. "I've really taken it easy on production over the last 18 months," he admits. "I felt in a bit of a transitional period but I really feel hungry to get back at it now."
