If Axwell (Axel Hedfors) has spent the last few years bubbling under and earning the props of his peers for a string of flawless productions, remixes and DJ sets, then 2009 was the year he properly exploded. Quite simply, 2009 has been the year of the Swedish House Mafia, the six-legged groove machine that comprises of Axwell and his buddies Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. "2009 has been really good," Axwell reflects, before quickly adding: "The years just keep getting better and better. Every year is the best in terms of work, gigs and recognition." And if one tune can be said to have defined Axwell's annum, it's the aptly-titled 'Leave The World Behind' - an elephantine track that soundtracked every worthwhile party from Miami to Ibiza and beyond. Next year is looking pretty tasty too: currently in the studio working on tracks he hopes to "present" to the world in 2010, life is looking pretty good right now for the friendly 31-year-old. Apart from one thing. He's developed every DJ's bete noire; tinnitus. "It was bound to happen," he notes sanguinely. "But at the moment I can manage it. I'm obviously worried about my long-term hearing, but, for now, I'll live."
