Questions Top100 DJs 2015 - Jon Dommett - 2015-11-13 10:51

Best known for:
“Our artist albums 'Tri-State', 'Group Therapy' and 'We Are All We Need'.”
Tune of the year:
“OceanLab 'Another Chance'.”
Breakthrough DJ/producer of 2015:
“Lane 8.”
What’s the most important skill a DJ should have?:
“Being able to write and produce great music of their own.”
Is the future still bright for EDM?:
“The future's bright for electronic music generally but it feels like the sub-genre of electronic music that gets labelled 'EDM' in the UK has peaked.”
Does the constant travelling and DJ lifestyle ever take its toll on you mentally?:
“Sadly it does, sleep deprivation is pretty effective as torture!”
What cause is closest to your heart?:
“We've set up a charitable fund called Little Something, in memory of Jono's late sister Charlotte, to support maternal mental health-related causes.”
Which club would you like to bring back from the dead?:
“Malibu Stacey in London. It was the coolest club in London when clubbing, with great DJs and queues round the block.”
Why aren’t there more women in the Top 100 DJs poll?:
“For the same reason there are more guys at gigs, guys get way more into this stuff than girls.”
What do you think of DJs who use ghost producers?:
“It's fair enough if they credit them publicly.”

Once the mainstay of our Top 10, trance is no longer the dominant sound of the world's big-room clubs. Of course, EDM is today the world's mainstream sound du jour, which even Tiësto is now embracing — however, that hasn't stopped this London trio sticking to their guns.

While the Anjunabeats bosses have delved deeper into house territory with their 'deep' spin-off, they've continued to stay true to the supple melodica of their DJ sets in 2015. Third studio LP 'We Are All We Need' is as earnest as you'd expect, feeding elegant, Goan-influenced styles into a pop formula, while the return of their acoustic show in 2016 will see them illuminate their illustrious club tracks as a live band. Above & Beyond are still maturing — continually evolving — and their following is still strong, placing in the top 30 in the poll again.
