In just ten years, Swedish-born Tim Bergling went from unknown to global EDM icon. In that time he played in many countries around the world to crowds that total many millions. He has had Top 10 hits in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Sweden as well as many other countries around the globe. He is the man behind dance hits like country & western EDM smash ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘You Make Me’ and ‘X You’. He has been nominated for two Grammys: one for his hit ‘Levels’ and another for his collaboration with David Guetta, ‘Sunshine’. He has won many MTV Music Awards and has always placed in the upper echelons of our own Top 100 DJs poll. But now it is all over, with the still young artist announcing back in March 2016 that he has finished touring and needs to take time out owing to health concerns.

Posting on his website, he said, “My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps. I’ve become an adult while growing as an artist, I’ve come to know myself better and realize that there’s so much I want to do with my life. I have strong interests in different areas but there’s so little time to explore them.”

Away from the dancefloor he runs his own charity, House for Hunger, which is dedicated to alleviating global hunger and has donated some of his millions to Feeding America. While it must be assumed these causes will get more of Avicii’s focus now, he also recently promised on Facebook we haven’t heard the last of him as a producer. “Creating music is what makes me happy and I have gotten to know so many great people in my days of touring, seen so many amazing places and created endless good memories. The decision I made might seem odd to some but everyone is different and for me this was the right one.” KRISTAN CARYL
