Though in recent times he’s broadened his musical reach, in 2016 Willem Rebergen returned to his hardstyle roots with an appearance at the genre’s foremost tribal gathering, Defqon, something he describes as “the highlight of my whole career”. That was the crowning achievement in a year of DJ appearances that also took in Electric Zoo in NYC, Nature One, Germany, Tomorrowland, Belgium and Dance Valley in his homeland, among many others.

Willem also gave his fans a greater insight into his day-to-day life with a new vlog series. The ongoing Vlogs From Within offers a fascinating window into his world. Headhunterz candidly details his production process, invites cameras to follow him on the road, and even trains a lens on him brushing his teeth and shaving.

“I have done a podcast in the past called Hard With Style and I was missing a way to convey my story, because I love storytelling,” Willem reveals. “Music transmits emotion but I feel like I have more ways in which I want to inspire people and be inspired myself.” BEN MURPHY

“The laptop! Goodbye big studio.”

If you had to switch your style to another genre, what would it be?

“Very relaxed music, as long as it sparks emotions.”

As a fan, what is the top price you would pay to see yourself DJ?

“I’d pay anything if I could take my girlfriend and make her happy.”

What can be done to prevent drug-related deaths at dance music events?

“Nothing, there is danger on every corner. We might as well stay in bed.”

How can we increase diversity in dance music?

“I think the horizons have already become much bigger since last year. I see many big shifts happening. Or is it just me maybe?”
