“Happy!” is how Fadi Wassef Naguib feelsabout the way Aly & Fila’s 2017 has gone. In context, he might be playing that down a bit. Egypt’s finest have once again spent their year staging considerably-sized events in some comparably historic locations. “Our weekly Future Sound Of Egypt radio show passed its 500th episode in the summer,” says the duo’s ever-genial frontman. “To celebrate, we hosted a show at the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. We also did one at Zurich’s Street Parade and had our own F.S.O.E. stage at Tomorrowland, which were both incredible experiences,” Fadi says.

The pair put out ‘Beyond The Lights’ — their new artist album — in September, front-ended by some particularly trailblazing singles. Among them were 'The Chronicles' — which featured an all-Egyptian co-production line-up of Philippe el Sisi, Omar Sherif and Karim Youssef — and its DJ Mag Money Shot-attracting title track.

And what have been the high points along the club trail in 2017 for the pair, we wonder? “Well, we played Hi Ibiza for Armin van Buuren’s event this summer — that was one ‘high’, certainly,” he deadpans. “Over the summer we also resumed our residency at Cream, Amnesia, which was wild, and played some pretty big festivals too — EDC, Creamfields, Ultras in Miami and Brazil, Beyond Wonderland, A State Of Trance, Transmission, Electronic Family, Something Wicked and more. All in all, it’s been another amazing year!”
