2017 hasn’t been the most prolific year for Skrillex as a performing DJ. Parking his famous spaceship for a while, he’s cherry-picked special live moments rather than play the consummate touring headline monster he’s been in recent times. Highlights include a legendary Dog Blood reboot with Boys Noize at HARD Summer, a get-together with his old emo band From First To Last, an appearance at the ACLU fund-raiser, and key festivals such as Burning Man and experimental gathering Form Acrosanti.

While he hasn’t been quite so ubiquitous on the line-ups, he’s more than made up for it with productions. This year has been a bass bonanza for Skrilly fans as he’s continually dropped collaborations, remixes and originals of all shapes and forms. From the jacking bass-house blunderbuss ‘Chicken Soup’ with Habstrakt to a reunion with his ‘Make It Bun Dem’ sparring partner Damian Marley on Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘So Am I’ via the delicate pop haze of ‘Would You Ever’ and the gully Jersey club bangs of ‘Saint Laurent’ with DJ Sliink and Wale, there’s been a new Skrillex production almost every fortnight since the summer. Each production defying expectations of what his sound is, and where he’s going, he’s operated with a cool unpredictable air throughout the year… And left us wondering what he’ll be up to in 2018!
