Drum & bass stalwart Andy C has once again been voted the highest — and only — drum & bass DJ in the Top 100 DJs poll this year. The RAM Records founder is simply unstoppable.

Starting the year with a 12-week residency at XOYO in London, for which he invited a representative cross-section of drum & bass DJs old and new, Andy sold out each of the nights in the series. He moved on to a slew of festival appearances in the UK and internationally — Parklife, Glastonbury, Dour, Sonar, MADE, Creamfields and South West Four were just some of the spots he rocked between June and August — and reckons it was “the best summer of festivals to date” for him and his team.

Andy was also resident at Together at Amnesia in Ibiza for a fair few Tuesdays over the summer, and is currently “plotting and planning for the next chapter”.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Yes.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“Don’t be afraid to talk, share a problem and take a break. You’ll be surprised how many people can relate and feel the same. Socials play a big part. Try and live your life, not someone else’s.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“If I’m asked to submit a line-up, I always make sure there’s a cross-section of DJs for the promoter to choose from.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“We always recycle in our household.”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“Matchbox cars!"

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Sky Super Sunday on the sofa!”
