You might be a Grammy award-winner, have held a long-time DJ residency at Space Miami, and released on Ultra and Interscope, but life is all about the next challenge. And for Cedric Gervais, who won a Grammy in 2013 for his epic remix of Lana Del Ray’s ‘Summertime Sadness’, that means a side-hustle in Hollywood.

“I’ve been working to pursue more film opportunities in my acting career,” says Gervais when asked about his 2019 highlights. It’s all part of a natural evolution for the Frenchman, as he’s already worked with Michael Bay and starred alongside Mark Wahlberg.

There’s been no slow-down in his music releases — but then again his three million SoundCloud followers will already know that. “I’ve also been working on a lot of new music that I’ve been releasing on my label Delecta every month, and also a lot of really interesting remixes,” Cedric tells DJ Mag.

That output, along with gigs across his now native America, Norway, Canada, France, Greece, and “new touring markets in Asia”, means that Cedric Gervais is still one of dance music’s real stars, even if he can increasingly hear Hollywood calling.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Yes.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“We need to remove the stigma associated with the issue, so it’s important for the community to keep talking about it. And on a personal level, it’s about reaching out to friends that need help and never judging them for what they’re going through.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“I love seeing more female producers and DJs on the festival circuits and line-ups I’m on. There is a lot more that can be done in terms of improving the gender balance, but it’s good to see it getting better each year.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“I make sure to recycle at my house and reduce my plastic use at home and when I travel.”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“G.I. Joe.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Nutella.”
