It's been another exciting year in the life of Italian duo Daddy's Groove. For starters, they’ve been involved in helping the bodacious Bob Sinclar to relaunch his iconic Africanism label — “We got great support straight away,” they say. And they've also been sharing the love by working with Oliver Helden's Heldeep label. “We love it!”
As for standout live events, a festival in Ethiopia called Adis Abeba was the one that really went next level for them. “We wouldn't have expected this could ever happen,” Carlo explains. “Such a great crowd and vibe.”
As for the coming year, Carlo Grieco and Peppe Folliero tell DJ Mag that a big surprise is in store for 2020. “We're working on a classic tune, we know it's going to be a hot one, can't really say more at the moment.”
You may also wonder why their profile pic only features Carlo? It’s because he's the one that does all the DJing, whereas when it comes to productions they work together as a duo. Hope that's cleared that up.
Do you submit your DJ set lists to the relevant royalties collecting society?
What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?
“People of the music biz and the audience should be way more focused on the music itself than other aspects like looks, attitude, money, socials etc, which can generate pressure for the artists to keep things moving.”
Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?
“I'd personally promote [anyone] who deserves to perform in front of an audience. It’s really weird to talk about gender in 2019, isn't it?”
What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?
“Just trying to avoid any plastic stuff, also eating well and healthy using seasonal food from my place.”
What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?
“The soccer ball, of course!”
What’s your guilty pleasure?
“Am not really addicted to smoking, however, I do need to enjoy an e-cigarette just after the set, to release the pressure.”
