Despite a comparatively quiet 2019 where gigs were concerned, Canadian electro-house producer Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) still found time to play several big-ticket festivals, including Ultra in Miami and Creamfields in the UK, and brought his solo show to Barcelona and Gothenburg.

This year, Deadmau5 added a film soundtrack to his already considerable discography. His score for Netflix thriller Polar, featuring new and previously issued tracks from the producer, was released on his label Mau5trap. The raucous rodent found time to put out a third volume in his ‘Mau5ville’ compilation series too, featuring collaborations and new tunes from label artists No Mana and C.O.Z. Mau5trap also emitted tracks from a variety of producers, with everyone from trance artist Matt Lange to EDM act Feed Me and up-and-comers such as Rolo Green getting a spin on the imprint.

Zimmerman continued to develop his techno-geared testpilot alias throughout 2019, recording a coveted Radio 1 Essential Mix in March and DJing at venues such as LA’s Exchange. Still to come this year are more Deadmau5 shows in Austin, Texas and Washington DC.
