Ferry’s had another year of channelling the old, embracing the new and throwing the odd leftfield item into his equation. One happening that was entirely foreseeable however was his Corsten’s Countdown radio show reaching its 600th episode, back in January.

From there the year’s been marked by bring-backs for not one but two of Ferry’s estimable aliases. After just a couple of years in hiatus Gouryella returned with a new production, ‘Surga’. Far more prevalent though was the long-anticipated coming-around of System F. Never having previously toured under the name, Ferry took it on the road — with EDC first to get a taste — before the show arrived in Europe for Electronic Family at the end of July. His UNITY project — aiming to unify the various trance tribes — also kicked off this year with takeovers at Escapade Music Festival in Canada and in Miami during MMW.

Musically, Ferry’s covered more than your average number of bases throughout the year. After a BT collab in June came an outta-nowhere partnering with Game Of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn — on a refashioning of Ferry’s own ‘Galaxia’ track, no less. Before all that however, Ferry ticked a big one off the old career to-do list, contributing the score to psychological thriller/supernatural mystery flick ‘Don’t Go’.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Yes, I do!”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“Take your time. Don’t get sucked into the craziness and try to create a good environment and structure around yourself. When touring gets heavy, saying ‘no’ is not necessarily a bad thing.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“I’m very supportive of talent, whether female or male. As long as they are talented, I will always support and admire them.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“I’m racist when it comes to rubbish!”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“My Dad’s old turntable.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Dark chocolate.”
