He calls it a crazy year, we say we never imagined anything else from the mighty Quintino. Already having cemented a place on the ever-growing list of notable Dutch dance exports, 2019 has seen this maestro play shows in countries including Uzbekistan, China and Nepal, championing new music in the process, while still finding time to make real headway on that much-hyped album his global legion of fans have been waiting for with baited breath.

Unsurprisingly back in the Top 100 DJs chart, holding steady at No.25, Quintino’s continuing appearance confirms that all the hard work is still paying off. The recent Afsheen collaboration, ‘Don’t Lose Love’, is just the latest example of his deft studio skills, with a newly-launched merchandise line testament to how much demand there is for this particular Amsterdam powerhouse. Exuding energy and passion, it seems that despite having already made a huge impact on the scene, the smart money is on the best being yet to come from the man in question.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Yes, it’s very important to protect all the authors and neighbouring rights, and have all artists receive what they deserve.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“I love what I do, but it can be very hard being away from home for weeks at a time, and travelling 20-30 hours a week. I just try to have a good balance and make time for my friends and family, and to rest in between tours.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“To be honest, I just look at the music and if it’s good and if the person is talented, I believe the best artist should get the spot on the line-up. When a female DJ is talented I work with them, like I’ve been working with NERVO and Krewella.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“We always try to fly as efficiently as possible and try to compensate where we can.”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“My dinosaur T-Rex. I brought him everywhere, and even had the matching t-shirt.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“I always listen to traditional Dutch sing-along songs and love to go to a bar and sing these songs out loud.”
