Over the last few years, brothers Alessandro and Andrea Vinai have taken up residence in our annual Top 100 DJs poll. In fact, 2019 marks their sixth successive year in the upper echelons of the chart. Given their standing within the EDM scene, it’s easy to see why. They recently unleashed one of the most talked-about hardstyle tracks of the year — a joint production with long-serving Austrian duo Harris & Ford entitled ‘Break The Beat’ — and also provided a typically bouncy rework of fellow EDM stars the Chainsmokers for a Japanese edition of the Brooklyn band’s most recent album.

The Vinai brothers’ continued presence in the annual Top 100 DJs chart is not based on the success of their productions, though, but rather the popularity of their dynamic performances and DJ sets. 2019 has been another blockbuster year for them in this regard, with headlining performances at Macau’s Club Cubic, an extended session in New York City, Exchange in Los Angeles, and Xe54 in Melbourne being amongst the duo’s many highlights.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“We do have a system through an Italian company named Siae that helps artists do that, yes.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“Don’t use drugs, they are not the solution to your problems! Always try to be positive and try to surround yourself with positive people — negativity is the worst.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“We always try to support every gender.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“We drive the car as little as we can.”

“Absolutely Lego!”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Eating, eating and eating!”
