Belgian star Lost Frequencies has used the extra time at home this year to get more hardware into his productions, and it shows in his latest, more rugged tracks. He also managed to play on the rooftop of the Royal Palace in Brussels, "something that would’ve never been possible without the pandemic.” His set was more relaxed and reflective than fans are used to, mostly as a result of being at home so much. “When I’m touring, I want energy and I want to see the reaction from the crowd,” he says, “but now I want people to be able to enjoy music at home!”

He has new singles on the way that reflect "arrangement changes, vibe changes and sound design changes”, and also continues to sign up new acts to his Found Frequencies label, having already signed over 30 different artists, with many more to come. It has been a productive year, then, but he's also keen to point out: “Now I’m ready to go back on tour!”

What three things have most helped you through Coronavirus Lockdown?

“Producing music, having a healthy routine – food and sport – video games!”

What lessons should the industry learn from this crisis?

“That to take a good break is actually possible. I didn’t stop for five years in a row, and I have to say it feels good to be home.”

What steps need to be taken to address the racism in the dance music scene?

“Education is key, there is no specific point I think, it's more global awareness and action that is required on all fronts. I am fully aware of the privileges I have because of my skin tone, and feel everybody should have the same chances for happiness and success.”

What industry changes are you personally pushing for to make the dance music scene more inclusive?

“We try to sign people from all around the world on my label Found Frequencies, we have a lot of different nationalities releasing music on the label. We also try to look for the upcoming girl producers!”

What’s the greatest dance music track of all time?

“I would go for Robin S ‘Show Me Love’. Great vocals, and really cool beat.”
