Rising star DJ/producer of 2021: “Dom Dolla - killing it right now!”

Belgian DJ and producer Felix De Laet is better known to his fans as Lost Frequencies. He first came to the public’s attention in 2014 with his breakout track ‘Are You With Me’, which clearly set out his musical stall: tropical infused electro-house with big vocal hooks and a pop sensibility. He’s since been streamed over a billion times and remixed artists like Diplo, Sia, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Lost Frequencies has also become a mainstay on the festival circuit and his Found Frequencies label has released established artists like James Blunt and Zonderling as well as young guns like FROTZ, Jameson and Pretty Pink.

In terms of music from Lost Frequencies, he’s kept up the pace this year, scoring a global top 50 single on Spotify with his vocal anthem ‘Where Are You Now’ with Calum Scott, and his remix of Kungs ‘Never Going Home’ epitomised the sun-kissed, accessible sound that has made him such a big festival draw.

How was your first gig back after lockdown?

“It was something else, I played an extended set and the energy just didn’t go down for the whole night!”

How have the last 18 months changed how you view your work/life balance?

“It made me turn my house into a home and made me appreciate a lot of smaller things in life that I took for granted.”

What further steps should the industry take to combat climate change?

“Be aware at events and try to use recycled materials as much as possible, from the stage to the drinks cups. Make everything eco-friendly, and try to minimise the impact of a festival on nature in the surrounding area.”

What’s the best bit of tech you’ve added to your studio or DJ setup this year?

“Definitely, the Moog One going through my WES Audio ngBusComp.”

What’s the best album you’ve heard this year?

“I really liked Tony Romera’s new album ‘Introspection’.”
