Crowning 20 years this year, it’s fair to say that The Rex’s legendary status can be traced back to 1991 when Laurent Garnier’s infamous Thursday nighter Wake Up! did just that to the basement venue — he later wrote both ‘Wake Up!’ and ‘Rex Attitude’ in homage to the space.

The venue is a paragon of musical diversity with Gilles Peterson, Justice, Andy C, Radioslave, Dubfire and Autechre a fraction of those who have appeared over the past 12 months.

“I’m dying to get back there,” beams Rex fan Claude VonStroke. “It’s a nice personal-sized room with an amazing crowd.”
