“Think the Haçienda meets the Amnesia terrace,” David Vincent tells DJ Mag when asked about the Ibizan wing of 19-year-old Manc institution Sankeys.

He's talking about the club's third room, The Lab (formerly The Box), a whitewashed terrace with “a classic Balearic vibe”, to be reconfigured and fitted with a brand-new soundsystem this season.

It's not the only aspect of the club to change during its two-year lifetime. Existing pretty much as a work-in-progress since opening in 2011, it shook off a tricky opening season in which it struggled for the early part with an unfinished soundsystem and LED lighting set-up.

Last summer, however, saw it embrace Solomun's Diynamic Neon Nights residency, while Carnival and ViVa Warriors really came into their own, making the club one of the most feverishly talked-about among serious clubbers on the White Isle. With Dirtybird, Hypercolour, Fuse and Flying Circus joining the ranks this year, 2013 is set to see  Sankeys Ibiza progress even further.
