Zouk is Asia’s most beloved nightclub brand. The brainchild of dance music innovator, Lincoln Cheng, Zouk Club first kicked off in Cheng’s native home of Singapore in ‘91 before being transported to Kuala Lumpur just over a decade ago.

The Malaysian edition draws strong parallels with its successful Singaporean sister. State-of-the-art sound, check, mind-bending light-shows, check, globe’s best DJs, check! The Malaysian Zouk is a near-replicated version of the flagship, with the exception of the nightclub’s unique door policy. Tourists are offered free entry to Zouk in Malaysia, on the condition that they show a copy of their passport at the door, an added incentive for house and techno fans visiting the capital.

As well as your usual international mainstays — Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, David Morales et al — Zouk is also a platform for up-and-coming DJ talent in Asia, with the club consistently booking local acts alongside global names. If you’re in the region during December, look out for Zouk’s epic two-day festival, ZoukOut, that takes place each year on Sentosa Island, Singapore.
