New City Gas
2

As arguably the most prominent night-club in the cool, dance-savvy Montreal, New City Gas stands proud in Canada's dance pantheon. Unlike the underground techno flavours expounded by the nearby after-hours joints though, New City Gas — which stands triumphant in the city's Griffintown area — pumps to a big room EDM beat.

Indeed it's fitting that the beats are big here, since the club occupies a huge old power plant that originally supplied the city's street lights and fuelled Montreal's industrial expansion. Opened in 2012 as its present incarnation, it's retained its period external features while boasting a completely new state-of-the-art sound and light set-up that befits a club of its size.

Set over two floors and occupying 40,000 feet, nowadays the lighting it supplies is of a decidedly different kind, an impressive stadium-worthy rig creating dazzling displays to match the magnitude of the acts that perform in the venue. Lately, huge acts including Deadmau5, Hardwell, David Guetta, Tommy Trash, Gareth Emery, Benny Benassi and R3hab dropped by, so you can expect more bombast and retina blasting before the year is out.
