If “underground” is “making its comeback” in the US of A, one could easily point a finger of blame at Brooklyn’s Output. Nestled a few blocks from the waterfront in a nondescript, warehouse-y building, the disco has been a favourite for the past two years for many DJs in search of a proper party, and fans who prefer dancing to bottle-popping.

The vibe is dark and sweaty bliss, where every DJ gets an extended set as if it were the ‘90s circa the days of Sound Factory. Throw in the groovy respite found in the “secret” inner room, The Panther Room, as well as a no-VIP, no-photography, no-BS mindset, and you have Output.

On any given weekend, you can find Output hosting a wide variety of acts such as Carl Cox, Seth Troxler, Dubfire, Joris Voorn, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia and many more heroes of the decks. The club has also become a tour-stop for some typically “live” and “main stage” acts, such as Boys Noize, Kaskade’s REDUX, Pretty Lights and Skrillex.

Summertime sees the rooftop open for sunset jams, while in the winter you can find warmth on the dancefloor between an array of Funktion One speakers. As techno legends Pan-Pot say, “You have to be there to understand… the rooms, the architecture, the soundsystem and the people make a perfect mix”.
