Sub Club

A mainstay in this poll for all the right reasons, despite only legally offering dancing room for 500, Sub Club embodies everything a good club should. Ask anybody in town who knows about dance music, immediately they'll utter these two words.

Without doubt the beating heart of the Glasgow scene, if people in the city commit to The Arches for an intense, sprawling night out, they go to Sub Club for a more intimate affair. Glaswegians really know their shit, and it's no small thanks to this place!

Home to Optimo until 2010, Jackmaster's Numbers and Sensu, it's a club defined by its family of wildly loved residents. We only need to look at the club's revered Saturday night jaunt Subculture (winner of Best Club Night at Best of British last year). Celebrating 20 years in 2014, they invited a string of high-class residents to this snug ex-jazz club (Dixon, Seth Troxler, Tale of Us) to pack the place to the rafters week after week, but it was the resident-only parties, featuring veteran crate-diggers Harri & Domenic all night long, that were most riotous.

DJs aside, the soundsystem (and Bodysonic dancefloor) is difficult to beat, but it's the amicable, good-time crowd and friendly staff that make Sub Club so special.
