The building where legendary Ibiza clubbing institution Amnesia stands dates back to the end of the 18th century, but it wasn’t until 1974 when Amnesia became the rst club of its kind in Ibiza. Now the 4800-capacity venue is rmly established in the global party scene. People go to Amnesia to lose themselves — to forget — but it’s impossible to forget how deeply Amnesia is tied into the Balearic island’s cultural legacy.
There are two rooms: the main room and the terrace, but it’s the terrace that’s the real draw — famous for holding extended sets, with a high roof that allows the Ibizan sun to shine through in the early hours of the morning, illuminating all below.
As be ts a club of its stature and size, Amnesia pulls in predictably big names. The last year has seen stars including Sven Väth, Adam Beyer, Chase & Status, Hannah Wants, Fatboy Slim, Marco Carola and Pan-Pot play. Most people associate Amnesia with classic nights Cocoon and Cream, but international party brand Elrow’s Saturday parties have rapidly stolen the crown from more historic offerings.
