It’s says something special about a club when it books dance music royalty from across the spectrum. But Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos is a place like few others in the world, born out of a farmer’s old single-room hut on the edge of a rocky cliff overlooking the Aegean sea.

Owner Nikos Daktylides was smart to see its potential, launching Cavo as an after-hours venue in 1993 that catered almost exclusively to underground house stars like David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie. Because today it’s easily one of the most loved venues in dance music, developing into a multi-level, open-air venue that packs in as many as 4,000 clubbers a night through the summer.

Fireworks boom overhead as bikini-clad clubbers dance by the pool to acts as varied as Marco Carola, Armin van Buuren, Black Coffee, Kygo, Richie Hawtin, Skrillex, Sven Väth, Adam Beyer, Nina Kraviz, and The Chainsmokers — of whom played the cavernous main room in the past year, a place that glows opal as the sun rises over the back of the dancefloor come morning.

Cavo’s come a long way from its sleepy origins, but after 24 years it’s still a slice of Greek cliffside paradise.
