Location: London, UK
Better known to seasoned city ravers as Studio Spaces, E1 — opposite London’s historic Tobacco Dock — had already been in use as an event, photographic space, and sometimes-club for three years. In 2017, the venue undertook major changes to the soundsystem and interior architecture, with E1 starting life in its current format with a 27-hour marathon NYE party the same year. Spread across two main rooms — the Warehouse and Black Studio — the venue sets itself apart from others in the city with the addition of a chillout area.
Both rooms feature tailored Funktion-One soundsystems, but the real centrepiece is found in the Warehouse in the form of a bespoke 'Wall of Sound', and the space has been acoustically treated to ensure optimum sound clarity, with each individual system installed by Sound Services. Over the last 12 months, new laser systems have been installed in the venue, alongside other upgrades, and guests have included the likes of Apollonia, DJ Boring, Jeff Mills, and Theo Parrish. Although the internal events truly reflect the spirit of E1, the venue frequently works with some of the biggest promoters in the game, including Percolate, Volt, and LWE. It’s E1’s first year in the Top 100 Clubs poll, and the unique East London venue looks set to continue to rise in future.
