The former No.1 club in the world, Green Valley endured a double whammy in 2020. First of all, like pretty much everywhere else, it was forced to close its doors due to the pandemic. But then in June, a freak cyclone completely destroyed the club, leaving its future in doubt.

Luckily, the strong support of the Brazilian scene helped Green Valley build back better, and it opened its doors again in December 2021 when all the reconstruction work was finished. The club now has a new main stage, new sound and light systems, new tented covering, new chill-out areas, new restrooms, new bars… new everything, essentially. “Our audience, DJs and partners stood by us firmly in one of the most challenging moments in our history, and the new Green Valley emerged with the mission of giving back to each person a magical and unique experience,” says Antonio Afonso, International Managing Director of Green Valley.

Another new feature at the new Green Valley is the Reconstruction Memorial, a work of art made by a local artist out of actual wreckage from the club caused by the ravages of the cyclone. The monument includes the names of 11,000 supporters who bought advance tickets to help with the reconstruction, the names of the DJs who donated their fees to help fund the rebuild, and also the names of GV’s partner companies and ongoing staff. “These names are now immortalised in the club to thank each person who didn't let the story of Green Valley come to an end,” Antonio says. The onsite merch store also permits guests to take a small bit of Green Valley home — assorted clothes, accessories and gifts.

As well as being back hosting spectacular parties amidst the electric trees and LEDs, Green Valley is also off on tour again, rocking up in the Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso do Sul states of Brazil in August 2022. The club is about to announce its new set of residents for the rest of the year, and looks set to be providing a raft of memorable nights out indefinitely into the future. Green Valley may have won the Top 100 Clubs poll an incredible five times — equalling the record of the iconic Space Ibiza — and been voted into the top three every year since 2011, but its popularity is far from on the wane. Its post-cyclone, post-pandemic renaissance looks set to continue apace.
