Rex Club first opened in the 1930s as an art deco-style cinema, The Grand Rex, which featured an underground space, Le Rêve. By the ‘70s, orchestras were swapped out for discos and Rex Club was born. In the late ‘80s, acid house hit the Rex dancefloor hard; in the heat and fizz of it all, the careers of now-legacy DJs such as Laurent Garnier were launched. A single-room, 800-capacity club with a d&b audiotechnik soundsystem, Rex Club survived the pandemic and reopened last September. “It was really a hard period for all of us,” the team tells DJ Mag, “but we worked a lot to reopen in the best condition possible… the crowd is back, and it’s the most important thing.” In 2022, Rex Club will host residencies from Petites Lèvres, DELIGHTED Night, Mézigue, Mad People, Folamour, Bass Culture and Chloé’s Lumière Noire, to name a few.
