Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
With Malaysia one of the first countries to close and last to open due to Covid-19, the Kuala Lumpur wing of the Zouk empire has been hit hard. Still not officially open, the space has also been reduced to just its main room, meaning capacity has dropped from 4,000 to 1,000. Zouk KL first opened in 2004, and has been a regular feature of the Top 100 since 2011, on a steady upwards trajectory until the pandemic. While Zouk’s anchor night, LOUD, previously brought in the likes of Timmy Trumpet and Marshmello, the venue’s in-house booking team will focus on highlighting local talent once allowed to reopen. Residents Blink, Ken Fung, HypeEmBeats, DJ TheSIM, DJ LUQE and Radz will also return to give the Funktion-One soundsystem a much needed blast. Zouk doesn’t hold back on production, with a million LEDs dotted throughout the main room, sleek decor and plenty of smoke machines, confetti cannons and lasers.
