Back up and running again, WOMB — still one of Japan’s best-loved clubs after more than 20 years in the game — had to adjust its modus operandi when it was allowed to open during the pandemic. Unable to book international touring DJs, the venue focused on Tokyo artists and promoters more than ever. “It’s been a great opportunity to meet new talent and discover the potential of Tokyo's local artists and club scene,” Yui Ishii from the club tells DJ Mag.

Focusing on Japanese talent has enabled DJ Nobu to build his rep further via a residency at WOMB, while long-standing Japanese scene stalwart Takkyu Ishino has been holding regular parties with different domestic guests each time. WOMB has also played host to Qrion, who blew up internationally during the pandemic thanks to her well-received ‘I Hope It Lasts Forever’ album on Anjunadeep and her DJ Mag Future Star award.
