"It's nothing like you see on CNN," claims Offer Nissim. "This isn't a primitive country and when people visit Tel Aviv the vibe and style is so different to what people expect."
Indeed, the fact that the Israeli city is such a vibrant and cosmopolitan clubbing centre is down in no small part to Offer's tireless toil over the past two decades. But just as he's working against preconceptions about Israel's security situation so Offer's done more than his fair share to dispel the stereotype that his homeland is dominated by psychedelic trance.
"The clubs here play everything - r&b, electro, house - because people like lots of different atmospheres," he says.

The niche Offer has carved for himself was explored on his recent 'Forever Tel Aviv' compilation released in Israel and the USA, which showcased the tribal house sound he spins at TLV in Tel Aviv and at clubs like The Roxy, in New York.
As the country's most prominent and openly gay DJ, he's also become a symbol of Israel's increasing open-mindedness. And as his fame has begun to spread beyond Israel's shores so work has also come pouring in from abroad, as Offer has remixed tracks from Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and most recently Madonna.
"I was so flattered because she's such an icon to gays," Offer explains of his remixes of her 'Jump' and 'Isaac' tracks. "She's interested in the [mystical Jewish religion] Kabbalah and wanted to reach out to an Israeli audience."
