Matt Darey

It was always going to take Matt Darey a while to shake off the trance tag. When you're responsible for some of biggest trance moments of all-time in chart hits like 'Beautiful', 'Fly (Like An Angel)' and 'Gamesmaster' (as Lost Tribe), people come to expect it from you. Yet there were always more expansive designs building within Darey's musical mind and his Nocturnal radio show has allowed him to release them. Covering the full gamut of the electronic sound, the hugely popular Nocturnal has allowed Darey to show the house, breaks, electro and progressive sides of his DJ make-up. Past guests include Sasha, Tiësto, James Zabiela, Hybrid and Paul van Dyk. "We've had everybody I'm a fan of apart from Armin, Digweed and Carl Cox, who won't come on the show for some reason," he tells us. "I'll crack them in the end." One thing Matt has had no trouble in cracking is the Stateside market. In just over a year Darey has enjoyed five separate trips to the States and rocked 19 venues from surprise pool parties and the MGM Studios in Vegas to the Lizard Lounge in Dallas. Also going down a storm over the Atlantic is Matt's rocktronica material as The Urban Astronauts - a blend of epic indie rock padding, big vocals and sweeping electronic flourishes. "That's my baby right now," he tells us. "I've just finished the album and it's coming out in February across North America on Koch Records."
