It's not every DJ that can rock massive megadromes and surf the musical zeitgeist at once, but then Steve Angello ain't like every DJ. Famed for his bassy, funk-fuelled electronic house sets, this Greek-Swedish wonder has taken it to a whole new level in 2008. "It's been the best summer to date!" enthuses the DJ whose sessions at Pacha, Ibiza, Ministry of Sound and at festivals like Creamfields have done much to send his star into the ascendancy this year. But it's not just his abilities behind the decks that have house heads hyped. Famed as part of the Swedish House Mafia alongside hombres Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell, there are few who can match Angello's prodigious production skills. The irresistible, floor-burning 'Gypsy' (think Romany house) is just one of his solo 2008 club killers. Meanwhile, new production project Buy Now, a collaboration with Ingrosso, has seen him cross the genre divides, with the Michael Zager Band-sampling 'Bodycrash' finding favour with the likes of Diplo and Erol Alkan due to its sick, city-levelling electro propensities. It's this eclecticism and adventurous attitude that's kept Angello one step ahead of the pack, and seen him embraced by all kinds of crowds, and with a Buy Now album on the way, his popularity is only set to grow. Rest assured, 2009's gonna be even bigger for Steve Angello…
