Chris Liebing

Chris Liebing hardly needs an excuse to break a smile. Rivalling Christian Smith in the nicest guy in techno stakes, Liebing talks animatedly about watching his daughter take her first steps over the past 12 months, while his own career strides forward apace - his seething minimalist groover 'Bangbop' extends his current preoccupation with intense but measured tempos and heavyweight bass frequencies. His 'Selected Remixes' collection this year nodded to his more high octane past by including his rasping remix of DK8's 'Murder Was The Bass' and the devilishly darkly overhaul of The Horrorist's 'One Night In NYC'. "In the past few years my sound has become much more funky and slowed right down but it's still just as intense," he informs. The Frankfurt techno icon has also just completed a futuristic groover for Radio Slave's pioneering Rekids, as well as a remix for Josh Wink, whilst his ongoing production union with Speedy J garnered a spate of 120bpm techno growlers to be released on their new Electric Deluxe label. The only downside to 2008 was the removal of his Spin Club residency from Space, Ibiza, to make way for their in-house Be promotion with Danny Tenaglia. The loss brought longing for the island's allure but Chris was quick to see the positive. "It's meant spending way more time with my little daughter and my studio productivity has upped ten-fold" he beams. You just can't make a good smile frown.
