One of the pioneers of moombahton, Dillon Francis finally distilled the sound of his EPs for Diplo’s Mad Decent label into an artist album, due out on 28th October.

It's going to be a range of sounds. I wanted to make everything I'm into,” he explains. So does he think that moombahton is still an accurate description of the music he makes?

“Not really,” he replies. “I still love and make moombahton tracks (like 'I Can't Take It') and always will, but my style has definitely been expanding and evolving.”

While recording his first long-player took up a lot of his time — “the work has been non-stop” he says of the recording process — the rest was spent bringing his feel-good sound to parties and festivals around the US.

Unsurprisingly, he cites the Mad Decent Block Parties as his favourite events.

“At any of the ones I played, there's just a certain vibe there that is awesome,” he says. Although EDM has become a massive phenomenon in the States, he does not believe that the bubble will burst and simply states that “good music will always be good”.

Nonetheless, he says that he feels proud to have brought moombahton to the masses and is happy to take credit for popularising it. It deserves to be heard by as many people as possible,” he believes.
