Radical Redemption
| NEW ENTRY

“Off the hook!” That’s how Dutch DJ/producer Radical Redemption aka Joey van Ingen describes his year so far. Together with his hardstyle colleagues Crypsis and Chain Reaction, 2014 saw him forming the Minus Miltia supergroup, and the trio has just released an album, 'Legion of Strength'. A former drummer, van Ingen says that his musical background influences his current musical approach.

“I like to mess up beats, let kicks roll and create extra drive by percussion. I use a lot of big ass drums in my tracks, just to create this huge vibe. You can hear a Radical Redemption track from miles away,” he believes. This is precisely the effect that van Ingen’s music would have achieved at his favourite party this year, the Supremacy festival in Holland last month.

“What a vibe, what a show, what a pounding soundsystem! People were going crazy from the first till the last beat. We entered the stage walking over a bridge, three metres above the audience, 10,000 souls, screaming at the top of their lungs. It was madness, just madness. I'm still recovering from that night,” he says.

While van Ingen is only in his mid-20s, he is following in the Lowlands tradition of championing harder electronic sounds that started in the '80s with new beat and then evolved into hardcore and gabba in the '90s. “It's because its roots are here,” he says explaining the Dutch and Belgian love of hard dance. “We hear hard dance music from the first day we step foot in a club, pub, or whatever.”
