Major Lazer

Major Lazer were too busy to answer any of our Top 100 winner poll questions, but their management kindly thanked us for thinking of them. To be fair, we didn’t — their fans did, when they voted them in. Because that’s how this poll works. And Major Lazer have lots of fans.

By now, everyone knows the story of the futuristic dancehall-moombahton-trap-soca-bass (yes, all of those genres apply) trio: Mad Decent bossman Diplo founded the group with British producer Switch, who departed in 2011, and was subsequently joined by the members of his current cohort, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Whatever your opinion of their big energy, genre-crossing style, it’s impossible to deny that Major Lazer are a force to be reckoned with on the festival circuit and in the charts — they have three albums in the bag with a highly anticipated fourth, titled ‘Music Is The Weapon’, set to drop in 2017. The summer of 2016 saw Major Lazer release a single titled ‘Cold Water’, featuring vocals from MØ and Justin Bieber, that debuted at No.1 in several countries, including on the UK Official Charts. Fittingly, they released ‘Believer’ shortly thereafter, in a collab with Dutch DJ duo Showtek. Can you belieb it? ERIN SHARONI
