Danny Avila

It's been yet another massive year for Danny Avila. “I’ve been working on all kinds of music from all genres of electronic music,” he tells DJ Mag, explaining how he’s released a swell of tracks through many labels including his own NUMB3RS, as well as Sony Music, Spinnin’, Musical Freedom, Smash The House and Ultra Music. “For me, that was super challenging, but also interesting,” he says about the recording process. And having fun, experimenting in his studio is something he values highly, which shows through each release.

As a DJ who has evolved in the public eye, Danny’s creativity reached new heights with his latest anthem ‘Hard 2 Love’ — embracing a more stripped-back style that sets the pace for a forthcoming tour of Asia — and his sights are also set on Europe and North America for 2020.

An eagerly awaited new line of merchandise is on the cards, and plans to live stream his mixes from his studio add to Danny’s list of galvanizing future projects for the new year.

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“It’s all about communication! I personally think it’s super-important to publicly address that these issues exist in our scene and that if you don’t have someone close to talk to about it, you have to get professional help.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“Well, I’m not working on line-ups since I’m not a promoter, but for me women and men are equal, so line-ups should be balanced equally as well.”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“I started playing around with skateboards and wakeboards at a very early stage.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“I have too many to list here [laughs].”
