2019 doesn’t just mark Miss K8’s fifth consistent year in the Top 100 DJs poll, it also marks the Ukraine hardcore DJ’s most life-changing year to date. Rising higher and higher up the headliner ranks, Kate’s been causing international damagement since she emerged in the early 2010s: as a producer she regularly releases on the mighty Masters Of Hardcore imprint and as a DJ she’s renowned for tearing crowds of thousands apart with her energetic, uncompromising DJ sets. 2019 was no different. But for the first time in almost a decade, she took a few months off... For the best reasons possible.

“I was touring till 28 weeks of my pregnancy,” explains Kiev-based Kate, who announced her new bundle of joy in May on social media and returned to the decks in July for a summer of massive festival shows. “I was back on stage three weeks after having a baby and working on new music whilst learning how to be a mother.”

Congratulations Kate! Smashing it in every possible way, we’ve no doubt she’ll continue to rise higher up the headliner ranks in 2020.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Actually not, I really have to start to do it. For now, I was only submitting my tracks but no setlists.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“DJs and artists, in general, work too many hours and are sometimes overdoing it when it comes to the job. You need time off to relax and catch up on sleep or pay more attention to things such as your life outside the music world.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“I think that's more a task for the promoters of the events.”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“Separating garbage and trying to use less plastic.”

What was your favourite toy when you were a kid?

“Barbie.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello ‘Señorita’.”
