Florian Picasso

In what seems to be something of a trend amongst many of our Top 100 DJs this year, electro, prog and bass man, Florian Picasso toured less and worked more on music over the last 12 months. He says it’s made him happy and given him focus, and that spending time in a studio working on music in Los Angeles has been a real highlight.

“My favourite release was ‘But Us’ together with Echosmith on STMPD,” says Picasso, who was adopted by Marina Picasso, a granddaughter of the celebrated artist Pablo. “I want to head towards new heights, I want to be a style bender!”

That release came on STMPD RCRDS and follows big tunes on Spinnin’ Records with the likes of Nicky Romero and Laidback Luke, and headline gigs on gigantic stages at Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland.

Next year, the DJ and producer’s mission to take over the world continues with “crossover singles and great new collabs” that will likely open him up to an even bigger global fanbase.

Do you submit your DJ setlists to the relevant royalties collecting society?

“Yes.”

What more can we do to combat the mental health crisis in our scene?

“I think every DJ/producer that is touring and is under a lot of pressure should see a therapist, it should be mandatory from the management team.”

Are you personally doing anything to improve the gender balance of line-ups?

“Not really…”

What changes have you made this year to be more environmentally friendly?

“Donated to charity and trying to use recycled items that I use on a daily basis.”

What’s your guilty pleasure?

“Swiss cheese fondue.”
