Rising star DJ/producer of 2021: “John Summit.”

Vintage Culture made plenty of big moves this year: in July, he moved abroad for the first time. The Brazilian left Sao Paulo for Miami and “had to develop a new mindset, new habits, and new responsibilities” as a result. He also started his own radio show, Culture Shock, and performed everywhere from fabric in London to Space Miami via The Brooklyn Mirage. 

“If there was any silver lining to this lockdown, it is that I’ve grown as an artist,” says the man whose remix of Shouse's 'Love Tonight' has been one of the biggest tracks in the world in the last year. “My music has evolved 100%. I took time to study and dive deeper into improving myself as a producer, musician and songwriter.”

He is soon due to return to his native Brazil for a summer tour, has more music coming and surprises in store for fans in Ibiza. “I’d like to express my gratitude to the fans that have stayed with me through the years, and to the new fans who have come into my life. I make this music for them.”

How was your first gig back after lockdown? 

“It was like being set free. I was thrilled to have such a warm welcome from the American audience. Their energy on that first night back is indescribable.”

How have the last 18 months changed how you view your work/life balance? 

“I realised what is important in life. During the lockdown, I was blessed to spend more time with family and with my dog.”

What further steps should the industry take to combat climate change? 

“This is one time when we can say, the human race is in this together — not one country or nationality. This is a global problem. Our first step is accountability.” 

What’s the best bit of tech you’ve added to your studio or DJ setup this year?

“Prophet-6. Vintage with a modern twist.”

What’s the best album you’ve heard this year? 

“‘Olympia’ by Gorgon City is a new classic and we’ve even hinted about working together in the future."
