Rising star DJ/producer of 2021: “Unfused.”

What happens to Angerfist, the hardcore Dutch DJ known as Danny Masseling, when he’s forced to stop touring? Does his clenched fist ease, opening the hand to new horizons, even if just for a short while? Might it feel, for the first time in so long, like peace?

Yes, appears to be the answer, with Masseling enjoying life as a stay at home dad after becoming a father around the beginning of the pandemic. His downtime, meanwhile, has involved some serious Netflix and chill — so much so that he admits to not having indulged in any studio-gear retail shopping.

That’s not to say he’s not been making new music, undoubtedly currently being road-tested again, such as at his recent appearance at Glasgow’s thumping Colourfest. While the world is waiting for this though, he can still rely on a huge army of fans, especially back home — where his anthem ‘Pennywise’ recently rang out across the stadium before a game between FC Twente and Ajax.

How was your first gig back after lockdown?

“Liberating.”

How have the last 18 months changed how you view your work/life balance?

“It made me realise that it might not be such a bad idea to take it a little easier once in a while.”

What’s the best bit of tech you’ve added to your studio or DJ setup this year?

“It’s disturbing, but I have added nothing new to my studio this year.”

What’s the best album you’ve heard this year?

“Radical Redemption ‘The Chronicles Of Chaos’.”
