From: Chicago, USA
DJ style: House / techno / disco.
Best known for: Being Honey-Fucking-Dijon.
Raised in the 1970s on the southside of Chicago, and a witness to the birth of house music in the city, Honey Dijon has always been about the message in the music. She was on the dancefloor from as early as her mid-teens, befriending all the house pioneers before she thought to take over the deck herself, and so brings an old-skool charm to every set she plays. The artist knows how to lay down a groove, goes heavy on the vocals, and is big on lyrics that uplift — for her, the voice is as fundamental to the house sound as the four-four. It’s fitting then that after many years championing the scene, she finally arrives in the main Top 100 DJs list.
DJ, producer and fashion label owner, Dijon has had another whirlwind of a year, with sets at festivals as far flung as Glastonbury, Sziget, Neopop, Glitch and EXIT, and regular showings on the White Isle. In September she announced her Friday residency, Jack Your Body, at Berlin’s Panorama Bar and dropped her second album, ‘Black Girl Magic’, in October. Let’s hope this is the first of many Top 100 showings.
