DJ Style: Eclectic/high-energy
Best known for: Reinvention
When Skrillex settled into last year’s poll at No. 23, it had been a relatively silent 12 months for the DJ and producer, who’d spent the year mainly in the studio. In 2023, that all took a total 180 spin. It’s been one of the biggest years of his career to date, seeing him release not one, but two brand new albums: ‘Quest For Fire’ and 'Don't Get Too Close'.
Released via his own OWSLA imprint, the albums reintroduced the club-ready version Skrillex that fans had gotten a taste of behind the decks. Dominating the festival circuit and performing huge capacity shows, he played the likes of Detroit’s Movement and Parklife in Manchester. He headlined Coachella alongside Four Tet and Fred again.., who also joined him for a now-infamous set at Madison Square Gardens, and touched down in Portola and Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. He also made appearances in smaller clubs, like Edinburgh’s Cabaret Voltaire, joined the Circoloco crew twice at DC-10 Ibza, delivered a surprise b3b with Peekaboo and Sicaria at London’s Fire, and he still found the time to share another brand new single, ‘Pepper’, with Lil Baby and Flowdan. Skrillex has been just about everywhere this year, and we can’t wait for more.
