Poll 2023: REZZ

From: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

DJ style: “Electronic.”

Best known for: “Midtempo / bass music.”

REZZ kept it real in 2023. When she wasn’t gigging across North America, the bespectacled producer focused on important life matters — namely, she moved house, got engaged and spent time with her family. But she crushed it during her first year as a label boss, too. Last October, the launch of HypnoVizion kicked off an exciting role for the Canadian artist as she took on the new task of bolstering fresh talent. Diverse names like Digital Ethos, Mythm, Super Future and Runcryworld all got a boost under “Space Mom”’s watch, and the new imprint also gave REZZ a place to explore new genres in her own work — take, for example, the coyly named ‘It’s Not A Phase’ EP. The seven-track project arrived in April, boasting a hybrid goth-punk sound, inspired in part by the emo and industrial rock bands that made REZZ fall in love with music years ago. The extended player — which also features names like Grabbitz, Raven Gray, Alice Glass and fknsyd — was just one surprising offering from the HypnoVision camp. A slew of branded events also saw the bass maven try her hand in event curation, with resounding success. Now, she’s soaking up the bliss of a more relaxed schedule, and basking in the glory of another year in the Top 100. Hell yeah, REZZ! You deserve it.
