DJ style: Melodic techno / house
Best known for: Pacha Ibiza +1 residency
Solomun is no stranger to the Top 100 DJs poll — or the wider world, to be fair. The subject of a long-form feature in The New Yorker late last year, the Bosnia-German DJ has made it onto the radar of many outside the dance music wheelhouse, solidifying his reputation as one of the scene’s top melody makers.
Having emerged from Hamburg’s house scene in the early ‘00s, the DJ kicked off his Diynamic music label in 2006, holding regular parties at Berlin’s Watergate and releasing a consistent flow of melodic underground cuts. In 2013 he ramped up demand, launching his Solomun +1 residency at Ibiza’s Pacha, and playing on the White Isle every season since.
Some twenty years on from his initial outing and Solomun continues to pack out clubs and festival stages (we’re reminded of the ridiculous queue outside his ADE party last year), as well as remain in high demand on the production side. This year, he’s remixed Damon Albarn and Fatoumata Diawara’s ‘Nsera’, Amsterdam duo Weval’s ‘Forever’, and English rock band Muse’s ‘Euphoria’. He also returned to Finsbury Park this summer with Diynamic London, playing a five-hour set to a sold-out crowd.
