Rising star DJ/producer of 2021: “Cloonee and Sosa.”

In a few short years, Australian DJ/producer FISHER has cemented himself as a renowned artist. Since his massive ‘Losing It’ elevated him from unknown DJ to headliner, FISHER’s continued success has made him one of the world’s most sought-after artists. Though he’s spent the year “playing shows, hanging out with family and friends and getting music ready to release,” the surfer-turned-selector allowed the last 18 months to be a break after a whirlwind few years.

His label Catch & Release has championed the sounds of his peers and new artists, while his own tunes have continued to gather momentum: ‘Just Feels Tight’ carries the torch of ‘Freaks’ and ‘Wanna Go Dancin’, instantly cementing itself as a banger to be played in clubs across the world. With a slew of singles under his belt, a successful label and an Ibiza residency, it feels like the Grammy-nominated artist is only just getting started.

How was your first gig back after lockdown?

“It was in Phoenix, AZ, and it was amazing. The energy was through the roof, it was one of the best shows I have played.”

How have the last 18 months changed how you view your work/life balance?

“Nothing’s changed, just enjoying it more now than ever. I am super grateful for every amazing moment playing music.”

“Novation Summit synth.”

Legendary surfer-turned-selector FISHER blew up in 2018 with the massive ‘Losing It’, elevating his status from unknown to headliner in a crazy short space of time. After two years of almost constant touring and big Beatport-smashing releases, 2020 has forced the Aussie house superstar to take a step back and appreciate just how wild his trajectory has been.

Ever the optimist, his consistent output of tongue-in-cheek videos, fun pranks and off-the-wall thoughts have kept him and his fans busy as he’s tried to keep smiles on our faces during the darkest of times, often with a tufty multicoloured lockdown hair-do. He’s also been busy with his own label Catch & Release. Having kicked off the year with his own ‘Freaks/Dance With Me’ double-header, he’s focused on championing the sounds of his peers and new artists with major league releases from the likes of Volkoder & Sam Supplier, Deeper Purpose and Andrea Oliva. Now looking forward to returning to whatever normality 2021 will bring, FISHER’s sights are set on Ibiza as he’s the first resident to be confirmed for the mighty Hï.

What three things have most helped you through Coronavirus Lockdown?

“Music, family/friends and the beach.”

What lessons should the industry learn from this crisis?

“Keep pushing on, we will always prevail.”

What’s the greatest dance music track of all time?

“There are too many to just name one but Daft Punk's ‘Around The World’ always seems to light up the joint and put a smile on your dial.”

You little beauty! After scorching into the scene in 2017, and dropping a slew of ubiquitous anthems, the Aussie phenomenon that is FISHER finally makes his debut in the Top 100. With the incredible year of successes he’s had, it would be criminal of him not to.

Just in his capacity as a DJ alone, FISHER has been unstoppable; he’s held his own Catch & Release parties across many major US cities and festival arenas, his Bodyworks residency in Ibiza (alongside CamelPhat and Solardo) was one of the season’s hottest tickets, and he smashed the Warehouse Project to pieces two days on the trot for its sold-out opening weekend. Meanwhile, with fellow hit-making chum Chris Lake, they not only sold out their three B2B Under Construction raves in the US but are also set to launch their own festival. Entitled NAFF (Not Another Fking Festival), November 29-30 will see them holding huge parties in both Rio and Sao Paulo.

Massive. And that’s before we even get to his consistency as a bangersmith with this year’s hit ‘You Little Beauty’ scoring almost as many accolades as 2018’s anthem ‘Losing It’.
