Poll Clubs 2020: Illuzion

Location: Phuket, Thailand
Capacity: 5,000+

From shopping to bopping: Illuzion used to be a boring old mall, now it’s one of Thailand’s premiership clubs with action every night of the week. Sprawling over multiple floors and three rooms, the club has been a mainstay in the Top 100 since 2016 and it keeps on growing and developing year on year. 2019 was no exception, as the team supersized the LED wall and stage in the cavernous Outline soundsystem-equipped main room, making it even more of a dramatic scenario for big room blowouts.

As you’d expect from such a supersized enterprise, Illuzion excels in big ticket line-ups across the board, from EDM and hip-hop players to heavyweight techno stars all performing across the venue’s different areas. As well as the main room, there’s the Funktion-One-installed, techno-flavoured Shelter room and the plush Empire Club room, home to live acts, singers and hip-hop nights.

Whichever room you find yourself in you’re in safe hands, as the club’s faithful residents Kraiz, Samatsky, Guan Cuba, Mighty Mo and Miranda have been captaining the Illuzion controls for years, warming up for the biggest possible guests. Last year’s headliners alone ranged from Tiësto and DJ Snake to Marco Carola and Sven Väth, via Steve Aoki and Lil Jon.

Millions of people who flock to Phuket, Thailand each year also pass through the doors of Illuzion. It is hosted in a converted four-storey former shopping mall and is right in the centre of the capital. It’s a warren-like club, and it’s easy to lose yourself in the maze of bars, private rooms and balconies inside. Production is next level throughout the three rooms, with huge LED screens covering 100 square-metres, CO2 cannons, and aerial performers and dancers coordinated by a European choreographer.

Ten resident DJs play throughout the week and hip-hop, pop, commercial, live acts and the odd underground name all get covered. Tiësto, Nicky Romero, Martin Garrix, Soulja Boy and Afrojack are just some of those to pass by and light up the most comprehensive clubbing experience in Thailand. The building itself is always evolving and after adding a club called Empire last year, the roof has also recently been converted to add yet another dimension.

Poll Clubs 2018: ILLUZION

Location: Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand.

Capacity: 4,000

A staggering 1.3 million-plus party people have raved on Illuzion’s dancefloors since 2016. You can add at least another mill to that if you go back to the Phuket club’s grand launch in 2014. Visitor stats aren’t the only thing impressive about the Thailand superclub; a converted four-storey shopping mall slap-bang in the capital’s centre, its sprawling space is a dizzying maze of bars, balconies, private rooms and dancefloors big enough to house six massive CO2 cannons and mammoth LED screens. Constantly growing up the building, they’ve added a new club called Empire on its upper floor and plan to convert the roof into a new party space in the near future.

Illuzion’s rise up the Top 100 matches its constant developments. A new entry in 2016, it continues to rise through the ranks as its reputation builds among travelling music fans and touring acts who range from the likes of Bassjackers, Oliver Heldens, Marshmello, Mike Williams, Tujamo and Nicky Romero to live performers such as Soulja Boy, Tyga and Sean Kingston. Fully adaptable and versatile, open 365 days a year, and consistently warmed up by local residents Kraiz & Nyed, Fingaz, Samatsky, R-Cue, BKK Invaders, Jenil, Juicytrax and Juan Cuba, Illuzion is fast becoming one of South East Asia’s most popular clubbing experiences.

Poll Clubs 2016: ILLUZION

Open since 2014 on Bangla Road in the beating heart of Phuket, Illuzion is a clubbing Mecca for Thai locals and international jet setters alike. With the main room's T-shaped stage backed by a full HD LED wall, huge theatrical performances are the order of the day, including impressive aerial performances.
This was inspired by Vegas' sensory overload, so DJs have included Quentin Mossimann, Swanky Tunes and LMFAO's Redfoo, but it's not always pure EDM. Sven Väth and Justin James have also made the journey to impress the club's vast array of VIP tables.
